Supplementation:
In addition to feeding chameleons a well varied diet, supplementation and gut-loading is recommended. In the wild, a chameleon has a access to a very wide range of insects. In captivity, their diet is limited. So adding powder supplement onto the insects is very beneficial to the chameleons. Three supplements are needed. “Miner-all”, “Repcal calcium powder” and “Repcal multi-vitamins”. We give adult males and non-breeding females calcium 2 times per week, miner-all 1 time per week and multi-vitamins 1 time per week. For juveniles we give calcium 3 times per week, miner-all 2 times per week and multi-vitamins 1 time per week. For gravid females, we give multi-vitamins 3 times per week, calcium 3 times per week and miner-all 1 time per week. Be sure to dust lightly, and not to smother the cricket. Gut-loading is when the insects are fed a very good diet 24 hours prior to being offered to your chameleon. We primarily use this method on crickets and roaches. Many commercial gut-loads are available online and in pet shops. The insects should also be offered a green such as collard greens or mustard leaves. This is very healthy and beneficial to your chameleons, and is strongly recommended. Keep in mind that this is how we supplement our chameleons, and gut-load our insects, and there are many methods.
